About the Activity

La Vía RecreActiva, a bicycle and recreational route closed off to traffic every Sunday morning from 8 A.M. to 2 P.M., crosses the cities of Tlaquepaque, Guadalajara, and Zapopan.

Fun and Exercise

Whether you decide to cycle a short section or the entire route, you're sure to have fun and get some good exercise. There are two official event stations where you can borrow a bicycle: in Tlaquepaque, on Avenida Hidalgo near its intersection with Peña y Peña, and in Guadalajara, at 8 de Julio and Avenida Juárez.

Open for Everyone

Walkers, runners, roller skaters, and those on wheelchairs may also participate in this wonderful event, which promotes healthy living and a sense of community.

Points of Interest

In Tlaquepaque, La Vía runs through the city's main shopping district and gathering area. If you decide to take La Vía from Tlaquepaque to downtown Guadalajara, you'll pass the bustling, multi-level market known as Mercado de San Juan de Dios (or Mercado Libertad). At Avenida 16 de Septiembre, you'll be rewarded with a view of Guadalajara's stunning Catedral, which was built in the 16th century.

Along Avenida Vallarta, you travel past the cultural center Ex-Convento del Carmen as well as the historic church Templo Del Carmen. Next to Parque de la Revolución on Avenida Vallarta, there's a Vía RecreActiva trailer with event brochures and staff members to answer your questions.

A Break on the Route

With plenty of park benches and lawn space, Parque de la Revolución is a perfect place to take a break. Or you may decide to stop along another part of the route for a coffee or some Mexican cuisine.

La Vía RecreActiva offers a diverse array of attractions and allows foreigners to mingle with the locals and experience the vibrancy of Mexico.
